Just By Chance - 16th Oct 2008

Today has been a just by chance day as I have stumbled on the people I have been meaning to talk to for quite a long time.

First stop is Carmelo Ellul who has given me a list of previous presidents. I still have to confirm the dates when these president chaired the GDA but I now at least have the names of most of the GDA members who have been presidents' for the preparation of the Roll Of Honours list. In fact I am only missing 15 years out of the 56 years history of which I think Carmelo has done about 5 of those so only missing 10 years, nearly there!!!!!

Secondly I stumble into HarryP. and have a conversation about the PDC and our strong affiliation with the BDO / WDF which we are not expecting to put into jeopardy. We also discuss things that have been happening quite recently and I highlight the fact that DylanD. will not be able to deal with the Gibraltar Youth this year because of the further commitments he has with joining the PDC and family. HarryP. mentions he has no problems in dealing with the Youth in light that he is retiring soon and the upbringing of the youth has always been his spot. He however does want DylanP. to talk to him and confirm that he wants to hand the batten over to HarryP. Always in the middle I'll have to tell Dylan when he gets back from his tournament.

In continuation to Dylan and his plight into the PDC I personally wish him the best of success, we all know he is a top player and will soon be in the mix of things with the pro's.

Dyson calls me on the phone, young NigelS. calls me twice to ask me some computing questions, and PatrickD. also picks up the phone to call the pressie as he wants to reschedule next weeks game as their is a charity event that clashes with our league game. All I can do (as I am not available tomorrow for our game with the R.A.O.B.) is contact Amos who will be captain and ask him to call Patrick and arrange with our players.

Another very very very common occurance is players contacting me to ask for contact details of other members, I usually have no problems with this but I seriously have to find a way to supply this information at the beginning of the league as everyone seems to think I am the yellow pages.

Today I finally managed to get the printer working so that it properly printed the stock card paper we will be using for our invitation cards for our VIP's that will be attending the 50th Gala Dinner and I print off about 16 for Darren to post them as soon as possible.

In having completed that and dropping them off at Darren's house I call him up to confirm a few things and just to catch up on the 50th anniversary Gala and the progress.

Checked Facebook, sent invites via email and also completed the mailing list which thankfully AmosB. had prepared for me of around 65 previous members who have not played in years. I complete the list from a few old directories I have as we really do not want to leave anyone out and I will prepare the mail merge tomorrow and give that to DarrenP. to post together with the invitation letter and menu.

To finish off today I will register both internet names for DysonP. and DylanP. as I know that is important for sponsorships & building up a fan base, so I'll do them the favour of registering both names on the World Wide Web.
