Its lunchtime and I have managed to get all the printing done for the 5oth invites and I tweak several ranking forms and a players register which we will use for the competition tonight. Having completed all that, I thought I would get some practice in before tonight!!! a knock at the door and its ManoloV. so their goes my hope of practising at least for 30 minutes. Anyways I see to his request and print off 2 player memberships for a couple of lads that have joined the R&J Varyl Begg team and I have a chat concerning other darting issues.
Also at work I get a call from Mike Robinson an x player in Gib who is now back in the UK and he tells me he is coming over on the 5th November so I let him know about our 50th anniversary and he is chuffed he will be able to be in Gib to celebrate that too. I usually don't remember much about the past especially several years back but I do remember when Robbie won a rankings requiring the bull and I still to this day have the expression on his face as he turned around to meet the crowd, well done Mike.
DysonP. also calls me concerning St. Josephs queries and to ask on the start time of tonight's comp.
My suspicions were correct about the attendance and we have a really good turnout of 39 players. I also preempt that no one in the committee will have arranged anything for the raffle so I take one of my football cards to do. That turned out good too as the GDA made an extra £20 which for us is very good money (every penny counts).
It was a good night, yes of course busy but nevertheless very enjoyable.
I start off by organizing the forms to hand out to members (for the 50th invites) and helping out in the usual way: tables, chairs, draw, oches, attending to our darts accessories store and most importantly keeping things running as smoothly as possible without any hassle and answering the countless barrage of questions which is common in every competition. However I do wish that people didn't ask any GDA questions!!!!!! They keep forgetting that we are there as players too and would like to concentrate as much as the next person, anyways I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.
One thing I do have to keep doing is telling people on the night the right etiquette on certain things they shouldn't be doing as it affects player's performances as what they are doing goes against common courtesy in darts and is distracting players whilst they are throwing. I always advise them that's its best for me to tell them straight up as inevitably a week later the player in question complains to me anyways and as such to avoid that and as I am going to get the blame for not having said anything on the night that its best for me to tell them there and then and like that no-one can point fingers at me or the committee.
I wont mention anything on the finals as I would like the results posted when I complete the article, so bare with me and I'll send it via email. If you want to be informed on the results and article I prepare, then feel free to let me know and I will gladly include you in our contacts emailing list. I MUST warn you!!!! I send loads of emails so be prepared to get to grips with the wealth of information you will receive from me and most importantly on behalf of the GDA committee.
