History & recording it - 11 Nov 2008

Seeing we have the Friendship Cup this coming Friday, one of our oldest competitions here is a bit of background information:

The 'Friendship Cup' donated by Mr. Bill Gibson, the Leicestershire secretary was introduced in 1979. Mr Joe McCarthy, the GDA secretary and Mr. John Trinidad travelled to Leicester to collect this brilliant cup. The first team to win this cup was a five-man team from St. Theresa's Social Club. The Darts Association Cup was also competed for in the 1979/80 season, this was an eight man team event played on a 'knock out' basis on neutral ground. The winner of this event was the Astoria FC.

So seeing the importance of such an event I have sent an email to the members / contacts & the media to that effect.

I also made sure I have the forms which I will be printing to take to the venue for the competition this Friday.

DarrenO. has also written back as he has gone over the schedule to see if we can make any changes, he mentioned that we simply lack any Fridays and at first glance it might appear to be easy to shift dates but it's not.

I've also taken the opportunity to complete the a transcript of my speech at the 50th Gala dinner seeing it is very fresh in my mind. Then I simply sent it to the press which would be good if anyone can publish it.
