See below an email received by Gerry Doherty a previous member in the 70's / 80's who played in the Gibraltar Darts Association:
Hi To All at the GDA it was my pleasure to be stationed at RAF Gibraltar from August 1976 until January 1980 and during that time represented North Front darts team in the Gibraltar darts league and during this period I captained the combined services team twice against the Gibraltar Team Selection both times if my memory serves me right Gibraltar were the victors in were close and enjoyable contests with a high quality of darts thrown although the actual scores are long forgotten the memories are still pleasant I have in my possession a Gibraltar chronicle dated march 17 1968 in which Prince of Wales trio of Perera ,Castro and Yeo beat the North Front A of Doherty,Foot and Halpin in a very closely fought final, 40 teams were entered, in the same paper the GDA Doubles is advertised for the 20 and 21 March, which I am sure your records will show was won by myself and Keith Halpin I do not have any newspapers of this win but memory tells me that we defeated the duo of Proctor and Goldwin two gentlemen of darts and legends of Gibraltar Darts with victories going back quite a few years The trophy won on that night has pride of place in my home and never fails to remind me of the good times I had and the friends I met because of Darts in Gibraltar .
See below my response to his email:
Dear Mr. Doherty,
My name is Justin Broton and I am the current chairman of the GDA.
It is fantastic when a previous member gets in touch especially when they remember Gibraltar fondly.
My mums Uncles were the great Willie Proctor & Joe Goldwin and they were both instrumental for me to fall in love with the game.
Would it be possible if you could scan any articles in your possession or provide me with any further information you might have pertaining to the GDA. It is increasingly becoming very difficult to get hold of records but I am trying my best to get the jigsaw puzzle solved.
For example do you remember the names of the committee members back then?, any special events, who represented the country at the winmau, World Cup or European Cup.
Any information would be much appreciated.
Yours in darts.
