After work (and a hang over from yesterdays Rock on The Rock club experience - Thanks Warren!!!!!!!) ManoloV. and I headed off to Spain - Malaga for a local competition with 300 Euros top prize.
I am trying to attend as many Spanish competitions as I can on Saturdays for various reasons; For one their is always money at these events and as the Euro compared to the British Pound is quite poor it is better to win my money at these events in Euros, instead of having to change pounds to euros at the crap rate of 1.19 or something stupid in Gibraltar. Think about it, last time I won 333 Euros at an event which is around 265 British pounds. A few years ago that would have only been 208 pounds.
The evening went very well although we had trouble finding the venue (Tom Tom went haywire in the centre of Malaga with all the new roads jejeje). We finally got there and were surprised by the turnout which was 49 men and 19 women (they were expecting 19 men & 9 women). Some good players were there too so we knew we were in for a battle if the event draw didn't go our way.
First thing Manolo and I thought, "lets get comfortable, this will take some time", especially with 3 boards as the 4th dartboard was for the ladies.
A few hours later at around 11pm we had only played 2 games and we were trying our luck at the gambling machine, long and behold we hit the jackpot jejeje 400 Euros in total. I thought this competition is going good jejejeje and it didn't finish there. A few hours later and only 3 rounds of games under our belts we also won a set of soft-tip darts worth 30 Euros, a dart players shirt worth 40 Euros and an Xmas lottery ticket worth 20 Euros. Are you adding up!!!!!
When we returned after a snack at one of the locals which was beside the venue, it was straight to the dartboard and I had a tough game in the last 8. I played well but just couldn't finish the game. On my 2nd leg to win the match I scored bull, bull ,12, bull x 3, bull x 3 and left myself 89. I honestly don't know what I did to cock it up imperially but my opponent was on 300 odd points, so what a plonker I was when I missed 6 darts and he took out 143.
Anyways it all ended there as I played through the losers brackets and was unfortunate enough to get drawn against ManoloV. This meant it was one of us out of the competition. With ManoloV. I did exactly the same hitting over 9 bulls in each of the 2 games I played against him and still lost.
I better get my finishing in order as its scores for show and doubles for dough jejejeje. Better luck next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways with a lottery ticket, brand new darts, 25 Euros in winnings and my 200 Euro share of the jackpot it was time to drive home. Total earning 255 Euros not bad as I took 200 Euros over.
All in all it was an excellent day/night and I achieved the objective of coming back either squared up or having won something.
I arrived back in Gibraltar at 6:30 in the morning and counting the hours that's a good day of darts from start to finish 14 and a half hours total. Maybe the players in Gibraltar should learn a bit from that when they complain that our local events take too long (which typically never take longer than 5 hours).
